A room full of cardboard boxes waiting to be unpackedMoving your business or organization can be exciting! Even though it can be a thrilling time, it’s still important that you don’t get carried away. A business move is often the result of company growth or expansion. However, there are many unforeseen expenses or company concerns that can sneak up on a business owner during a move. While moving your own business may often seem like the least expensive option, there are certainly some hidden costs to consider. The friendly moving experts at Marrins’ Moving put together a post detailing many of the costs you might not consider while planning your next business move. When you study up, you’ll be ready to handle anything your relocation might throw at you. That way you can ensure that your company will enjoy a successful move.

1. Day-to-Day Disruptions

When a business moves, their processes and procedures tend to get messed up. This can cause order errors, customer service delays, and more. Customer trust and loyalty is priceless and should be a major concern when moving your business. You can avoid problems by planning and letting customers know of any potential hiccups. It’s always best to be up-front, and if people know that you’re moving, they’ll probably understand.

2. Overpaying Employees to Help

It might seem like a good idea, but using your employees to help with the move could end up costing you more than you think. Many companies opt to use their employees to move their business location. This can often be a mistake. If a business is not shut down and moved during regular business hours (which reduces revenue-building productivity), then employees must be paid overtime. Also, both locations are often open at the same time. This can create double the overhead. When you choose to work with a professional moving company you’re just paying the standard rate. On top of that, your employees can still get their jobs done, so you save both overtime and productivity.

3. Workers Comp Can Cost You

Another employee concern should be potential workers compensation cases. While precautions can be taken to limit employee injuries during a move, you can’t completely eliminate the possibility. If an employee gets injured during the move, this could cost the company dearly. You can avoid this entirely by enlisting the services of a professional moving company that knows the risks.

4. Protect Your  Health

Above all, it’s important to remember to take care of yourself during the big move. Your health should be a concern when planning to move your business. Moving a business can be stressful, especially if you are inexperienced. Let experienced movers do the heavy lifting and reduce your stress!

A location move is often great news for a growing company. But that doesn’t mean things are easy! There are many uncertainties that come along with the growth and improvements. You can eliminate unforeseen moving costs and reduce your stress by hiring professional movers! Speak to the friendly local movers at Marrins’ Moving to see how we can help you and get the job done right.

The holidays are one of the most wonderful times of the year. There’s a contagious feeling of joy and generosity that’s can be hard to avoid. But during all of the celebrations, it’s important to think of those who are less fortunate. There are many people in our community that are still struggling to put food on the table, and presents under the tree. That’s why Marrins Moving is proud to team up with the Salvation Army and the Capital City Clauses to work to benefit underprivileged families in the area. Together, we can help make the season bright for thousands of families throughout our community.

24 Years of Toys for Christmas

The Jingle Ball has been taking place for more than 20 years, and has come a long way from its humble beginnings. It all started in 1993 as a group of friends wanting to raise toys for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Cheer program. The Christmas Cheer program is dedicated to helping make sure that families in need will have something under the tree on Christmas morning. Thanks to the Christmas Cheer program, deserving families and thousands of children are able to open presents around the Triangle.

Today, the Jingle Ball is in its 24th year and has become one of the largest toy drives and biggest charity parties of the season. In fact, the event has become so successful that they sell out of tickets to the event every year. With more than 2500 attendees the program is able to raise tons of toys for underprivileged families, and bring a lot of smiles to homes all over the Triangle on Christmas morning. All the toys that are purchased are donated to the Salvation Army of Wake County’s Christmas Center. Every year, this 25,000 foot warehouse is turned into a Winter wonderland where registered families are able to find gifts for their families for the holidays.

Serving Our Community

Marrins Moving is pleased to be able to pitch in and help out with this year’s event. Our business is happy to give trucks, manpower, and additional donations to further help underprivileged families around the area. Our company has been helping move the Triangle area to greener pastures since 1997. The community has been so good to us over the years that we wanted to find a way to be able to give back. We’re thankful to the Salvation Army and the Capital City Clauses for presenting us with an opportunity to give to the less fortunate.

See How You Can Help

What’s even better is that you can get involved too! If you’d like to learn more about how you can donate to families in need, you can contact the Salvation Army or visit the Wake County Salvation Army online to get more info about available Christmas opportunities. Whether you’d like to donate toys, adopt an angel from the Angel Tree, donate food for a hot holiday meal, or ring the bell, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved with your community this holiday season. Find out how you can spread the joy of the season and get involved in the community today!

The 24th annual Jingle Ball will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh. Marrins Moving would like to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the entire NC Triangle and everyone else that’s celebrating across the United States.

Commercial moves are completely different from residential moves. They require a special expertise—something that regular moving services don’t always offer. There are more than 800,000 small businesses in North Carolina, and a good chunk of these relocate to new office premises every year. Commercial movers help companies coordinate and execute their moves without disrupting day-to-day business operations. Here are a few differences between commercial and residential moving services in North Carolina’s Triangle area.

Commercial Moves Require a Lot More Planning

Residential moving services in the Tar Heel State are relatively simple. Movers will transport someone’s belongings to his destination on a specified day. Commercial movers, on the other hand, require a little more planning. Business owners need to choose a moving day that limits disruption to everyday operations. Office moves that take too long could have a significant financial impact on the business.

Here at Marrins Moving, we have specialized in commercial moves for more than 10 years. Corporate offices, retail stores, restaurants, banks, law firms—these are just some of the businesses we have worked with over the last decade. Companies based in North Carolina’s Triangle area can benefit from our excellent customer service and get a return on their investment.

Commercial Moves Involve the Transportation of Sensitive Material

Unlike most residential relocations, commercial moves include the transportation of highly sensitive documents such as employees’ tax records and internal accounts. Most businesses will also have a computer system with valuable data. Data protection legislation in the United States requires business owners to keep these documents and programs safe and secure at all times, including when moving to new premises.

Marrins Moving transports all sensitive material with care, providing businesses in North Carolina’s Triangle area with the peace of mind they need. We carry out extensive background checks on all our staff and always use the best business practices. Companies in the Triangle area can benefit from our trusted, reputable commercial moving services. We help business owners pack sensitive documents and programs and unpack them at the other end.

Commercial Moves Involve the Transportation of Lots of Electronic Equipment

Most residential movers transport valuables such as televisions and laptops. Commercial movers, however, transport a wide range of electronic equipment. This includes printers, photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, and water coolers. Business owners rely on this equipment to carry out essential operations, so movers must transport these items with care. Only the best commercial movers guarantee this.

Sixty-six percent of employees use two or more devices at work, according to a study. Throw in all the other office supplies—stationery, desks, vending machines, etc.—and it’s clear that commercial moves require much more effort than regular residential relocations.

Here at Marrins Moving, our staff can move heavy items to new office premises without breaking a sweat. Our company is fully insured too. Unlike some other services, we are completely upfront about all of our costs. This means business owners know exactly how much they are going to pay as soon as they contact us.

At Marrins Moving, we know that every household move brings its own particular hurdles, but shifting everything you own over hundreds or thousands of miles comes with a few specific challenges. Here are the things that we’ve learned are the most different—and important—about making a long-distance move.

Check the Delivery Window

We understand that during a long-distance move, one of the highest priorities is finding out when the movers will be delivering your things. But because of the long distances involved, and because your belongings might share space on a truck that’s hauling other households too, most movers can’t give you an exact day for delivery. Our advice is to make sure you read the fine print on the delivery window, which can stretch for days or weeks, and to pack enough belongings to hold you for a few extra days—just in case. Another strategy we like is booking your move as soon as possible: This makes it easier to get your choice of move-in dates, and some companies will let you book a confirmed delivery day in return for an extra fee.

Pack a Travel Bag

We recommend packing a “go bag” of essentials for any move. That bag becomes especially important when you’re separated from most of your belongings during a long-distance move. The bag should contain basic toiletries, changes of clothes, vital documents and medications, along with anything you’ll need to find work, secure housing, or get started on school during your first days in your new town.

Here’s another good tip: Pack (and clearly label!) a “Day One” or “Week One” box that contains everything you need to quickly return to normal life without having to dig through all the boxes that were delivered. Some things you might want to include are wardrobe staples, favorite comfort items, and pots, pans, dishes, and utensils for cooking.

Your Belongings May Be Changing Hands

Your belongings might pass through many hands during a long-distance move, so we recommend packing everything as if it were going into long-term storage. That means filling every box full to the top so the contents won’t shift and padding all sides so that even if the boxes tip over, your belongings will be safe. Clearly label each box with your name, its contents and the room it belongs in, so you can quickly get organized once everything is delivered.
One of our highest priorities is being very careful with any fragile items you’ve packed, but you can help us out by grouping any fragile items together, so we can concentrate our care on those “fragile” boxes. Finally, please don’t pack liquids or food of any sort—even non-perishables can burst or leak during a long move.

You Have to Get There, Too

Here’s one last tip that’s usually a big help to clients: Don’t delay in planning out the logistics of getting yourself, your family, and any pets to your new home. You might need to rent a second vehicle or send some people ahead by plane. If nobody wants to drive, you’ll need to ship your vehicle to your new home.

While it’s true that a long-distance move can be challenging, we here at Marrin’s Moving take pride in getting it right, and we’ll be here to help you through every step of the way. Contact us today to get started!

Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians moved to a new home last year. Job opportunities, good schools, a better standard of living are just some of the reasons why people relocated. Alongside Charlotte, the NC Triangle area has experienced the most growth in the “Tar Heel State” since 2010. As local cities like Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill flourish, more people will need to use moving companies in 2017. Not all movers in North Carolina are the same, however. You need one you can trust that provides you with great value for your money. Marrins Moving has been providing the Raleigh area with quality moving service for over 20 years. In that time, we’ve learned a lot about the best ways to get a job done and working to earn customer satisfaction on every step of a move. Here are some of our top tips for what you need to know when choosing movers in North Carolina.

Do Your Research

There are hundreds of moving companies in North Carolina, so it’s important to make sure you choose one you can rely on. Part of that means making sure any potential choice is fully licensed and insured. A moving company that is missing either poses enormous risk. Without insurance, if anything happens to your belongings during the move, you aren’t guaranteed coverage. And without license, a business can’t legally transport your belongings to begin with. Marrins Moving is proud have been licensed for more than two decades.

Take advantage of reviews to help inform your decision. You can visit the Better Business Bureau to read reviews from people who have used local movers in the past.

Things to Look Out for

6 out of 10 people say that moving to a new home is the most stressful event in their lives. Good movers will alleviate any concerns you have by making the relocation process as simple as possible. Look for a moving company that communicates with you during your move, arrives on time, and transports your valuables to your intended destination quickly and safely.

When searching for movers in North Carolina, think about the following:

  • How long has the moving company operated for? Movers with lots of experience — and knowledge of the local area — will provide you with the service you require.
  • Does the moving company offer other services, too? What about packing and unpacking your belongings? Or full-service storage?
  • Does a moving company have testimonials from previous customers on their website? Read these reviews to find out about the type of service the company provides.

Find Out About Costs

When it comes to hiring movers in North Carolina, price doesn’t always equal value. Don’t hire a mover just because they offer the cheapest service in town. When calculating costs for your move, consider the following:

  • Are there any hidden fees that you have to pay? A good company will tell you how much your move will cost right from the very start.
  • Never pay for an estimate — this service should be free. Most movers will provide you with a quote by email.
  • Will a moving company charge you more to transport large items?

Looking for North Carolina movers that you can trust? Here at Marrins Moving, we have specialized in domestic, commercial, and international moves since 1997. We pride ourselves on our customer service and can provide you with the moving solution you require in Cary, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Holly Springs, Clayton and elsewhere. Hurricane Harvey Donation Drive in Support with Duke UniversityAs you’ve probably heard, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the city of Houston has been met with severe flooding, leaving many in the city without access to their homes, food, water, and basic necessities. Because of this tragedy, Marrins Moving has teamed up with Duke University to help deliver items to those in need in the area.

We believe in doing everything we can to make a difference. We’ve established a donation drop-off at Duke University that’s easy to find and provides a bonus to everyone donating there. The bonus is that with every three items donated, fans are given the opportunity to buy a general admission ticket to the September 9 game vs Northwestern for only $5 — an offer only open to those donating.

This is a tragedy that deeply saddens both Duke University and us at Marrins Moving, and we both want to do our part to help those affected by the hurricane and flooding. This flooding has led to thousands of people who have been stripped of everything. By donating to the victims of this disaster, you can help them get back on their feet and begin to move forward.

“It is important for our team at Marrins Moving to have a direct impact on the way we can assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. We feel our best way to support is using the resources we have to partner with other triangle families and business that need logistics for supplies. Let’s join together and be the difference! marrins' moving mover lifting boxes onto a porchA move is already a somewhat stressful life event. The stakes are often high, with finances, timing, and the unknown hanging in the balance. If you have younger kids, however, you can expect to double that stress during your move. The needs of your children can make prepping for your move more difficult, but they also have needs during this transition that often get pushed to the background, sometimes making them feel like another item to be packed. Being in the business of helping people pack up and move, we at Marrins Moving see a lot of families struggle with making this process a smooth one, so we’ve got some tips to make this time go a little smoother for all involved.

Reducing Moving Stress for You and  Your Kids

When moving with children, know that this is a stressful time for them as well. Even young children understand that some sort of change is happening, which can cause anxiety. At the same time, you’re trying to stick to their schedules, your schedule, pack the boxes, arrange the details, live in chaos, etc. until the big day. It’s difficult to get it all done and still be sensitive to your child’s experience as well. With a few adjustments to the plan, though, here are a few ways it can go a lot easier and minimize the anxiety for you both.

  1. Talk to them. Let your kids know why you’re moving, where you’re going, and when you’re leaving. Maybe have a countdown calendar where they can mark the days off, and check in regularly to ask how they’re feeling as moving day gets closer. Let them know what to expect as far as what they’re leaving behind and what they have to look forward to. Show them pictures of the new house, and visit the home and area with them if you’re able.
  2. Arrange a babysitter on moving day. This one is for your sanity. If possible, try to have them out of the house when the actual move happens, either by getting a babysitter or having them stay with a friend or family member for the day, but make sure they know if they’re not coming back to the house.
  3. Try to stick to routines. The familiarity of a routine will help your child have something steady to focus on in the midst of changes. You may want to skip bedtime stories or family game night or Taco Tuesday to give yourself an extra hour of packing time, but those rituals may make all the difference in your kids’ anxiety levels.
  4. Let them get involved. In the interest of time, you may be tempted to throw all your kids’ stuff in boxes yourself. Letting them be a part of packing their belongings not only makes them feel a stabilizing sense of control, but also keeps them occupied so you can focus on other things. Consider labeling boxes with words like “toys” or “shoes” and having them pack themselves where possible. Draw different colored circles on the boxes if they’re too young to read. You may also want to have them pack their own “comfort bag” filled with a few things that want to easily access at any point in the process.
  5. Pack their rooms last. If you can help it, hold off on packing your kids’ thing last. This will help them feel settled for as long as possible, reducing their stress and yours. In addition to that, moving is a time when some parents want to change out their children’s bedroom furniture, opting for an upgrade that better suits their age. Depending on your child’s personality type, it could be a better idea to wait until your kid is settled in the new house before making more big changes.
  6. Have them plan a “See You Soon” party. If you’re not moving too far away, let them plan a gathering you’ll make good on down the road in the new house. Let your kid make the guest list, think about the food you should serve, and what activities should happen. This will keep them occupied and will give them something positive to look forward to and associate the new home with.

Marrin's Moving solves residential and business moving needs in Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Morrisville, and RaleighWe at Marrins Moving aren’t really ones to brag often, but our long list of happy clients give us reason to take a little extra pride in ourselves these days. This year marks our twentieth year in business, a feat we don’t take lightly. We certainly worked hard to get here over the last 20 years. What started as a small business has grown into a large operation located in Morrisville, NC, serving home and business owners all throughout the greater Triangle area. Our list of moving capabilities has grown too, as well as our confidence. We consider the people we help in our area to be our neighbors, and we want to do right by our neighbors, giving them the best possible moving experience. So, that’s why we proudly recommend ourselves for your next move, and we’ve got a few reasons why we’re the reliable hands you can trust your move in.

Our Experience

Like we said, we’ve been doing this for 20 years. That’s 20 years of figuring out what works and what doesn’t Twenty years of learning how to make a move easier, more secure, and more pleasant. Twenty years of observing what home and business owners need to feel comfortable during this time. And twenty years of figuring out how to work together in a way that offers the best experience for everyone involved.

Our Team

It has always be extremely important to Marrins Moving to hire only the best for our personnel team. We carefully select our staff according to who we feel can provide the best customer service experience for our clients. As our team grows with each year in business, it’s still our priority to make sure the movers we’re sending out on the front lines of our company are professionals you can count on. We’re consistent, reliable, professional, and always careful with your home or business’s possessions. We’re on time, courteous, and in the business of making your move easier, never harder.

Our Transparency

We think of ourselves as a service, a trusted partner you can rely on when you need it. That’s why we make it a point to be fully transparent with our clients. After all, you’re inviting us into your home and trusting us with your belongings at what is often a stressful time. We don’t take that lightly. When you call on us, a seasoned member of our team will come to your home or business, perform an on-site assessment, and give you a flat quote for what your entire move will cost. That’s it. No surprise fees down the road. We’ll even give you free blankets and tape for the move.

Our Capabilities

We provide full residential and commercial moving services, whether you want help packing, help transporting, or both. We’ve helped move countless homeowners throughout Raleigh, Durham, Wake Forest, Cary, and the surrounding areas, and we’ve provided commercial moving assistance for various corporate and government offices, law firms, retail spaces, restaurants, medical offices, banks, and more in the area. We can even help with international moves from start to finish, and we provide white glove services as well. In addition to helping on moving day, we provide storage facilities as well in the event you can’t or don’t want to take everything with you. We also provide document storage for businesses needing this secure option.
